're going to see a rain, snow, ice mixture, a mess to the north. while we're at 37 in the city, we're hanging onto the upper 20s to 30s outside the beltway. look the eldersburg 31 degrees. everything that comes in right now -- or i should say in the next hour or so will fall in the form of some snow. you'll notice over the southern suburbs of d.c., back down into virginia, you're dealing with the snow and that's what's lifting up from south to north during the course of the morning hours. you'll notice 15, 20 minutes outside of the city limits and this will start to move in during the morning commute, the tail end of the morning commute. so first is this burst of snow that's going to come in and then it's going to change over to rain for the city. still could be a wintery mix over our northern counties and an ice situation north and west of town, north and west, really, of 83 as you go into they aremont and monkston you could be deal iing with an icy situation. rain totals, that's the other aspect of the storm, one to two inches of rain and there could be some severe weather, maybe

to the embarcadero for the fire works show. and there are other parties going on in the city. is a lot of people will not want to take their cars. bay area transit agencies are making it easier for them to leave their cars behind by offering free rides in some cases and extended service. starting with bart. bart you will still have to pay for your tickets but their trains will be running late tonight until 3:00 a.m. tuesday morning. but in order to avoid congestion, trains will not be stopping at all the stations. keep this in mind if you are riding the pepper bay point train it will stop at the embarcadero station. make sure you go to the right place to catch your ride home. muni is also extending service at the west portal and embarcadero stations. muni will run until 4:00 a.m. new years day. and fourth and king muni will run until 2:15 a.m.. muni will be free for riders starting from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.. caltrain and samtrans will be giving free rides. the last train will leave at 2:15 a.m.. there are a lot of options, three free options for those looking to enjoy new years eve celebrat

a major snow event for the northeast i-95 cities. so we should be doing okay there. but still, nonetheless, snowy travel for many across the appalachians and northern new england. going back to wednesday, d.c., certainly impacted. pittsburgh, on back into cleveland, all these airports where we expect the snow, there will be severe weather in raleigh down to the south of this. but it's all go up to the north because the storm hasn't gotten into the thick of it yet. thursday, up into new england goes the meat of the storm. but backlash snow and wind. and on friday, we got the all go as we are now in a break between storms. but a break is the keyword there. but here comes the trough of low pressure sliding off to the great lakes and the rocky mountains. and that means a new storm will develop and impact these areas into saturday. a lot of people potentially heading back this weekend. more rain and snow. right now, it's too early to call from new york up to boston. rain or snow. but right now, d.c. looks like they're right on that rain/snow line. this one could be much more impactful for the n

there on new year's receive in. >> of course. it's new year's eve in new york city. but the snow will be gone by then. it is a snowstorm nonetheless and the roads and anyone traveling in the northeast will run into some issues. we've already seen some reports of pretty bad road conditions across pennsylvania and new york state. that's where the snow has been heaviest. in new york right now it's just pretty at this point. it hasn't really made a mess of the roadways. the storm is going to take this track, moving in from the mid-atlantic and then off the coast of cape cod, massachusetts. that's going to keep the heaviest of the snow right in that area in pink from boston right back into hartford. that's where we're going to see our heaviest snow. everywhere elsewhere we have those winter weather advisories we are going to get some snow but about 1 to 3 inches. so it's totally manageable. but any snow on the roads obviously does cause some issues. you see on the storm tracker here where the shades of blue are showing up across new york, back into eastern pennsylvania, even in central new jersey.
